Ambition.

Today in my information systems class, we had a guest speaker, CIO of Safeway, David Ching, come in and talk to us about careers and internships. CIO is the chief information officer of a corporation. What this guy does is he manages those who work on the information systems that Safeway uses. For example, the point of sale system you see at the checkout lane, or even the big bulky inventory counter that people use to check inventory. A fellow student asked him a question: "What is your biggest pet peeve being CIO?" "I realized that people nowadays are very ambitious. Ambitious in the wrong sense. Now, people are worried about job-title goals, promotional goals, materialistic goals, financial goals, so on and so on. Being ambitious is really all about challenging yourself, stepping out of your comfort zone into a territory that isn't yours, and making it yours. Being ambitious is to never be complacent. Whatever it is that you do, find a way to do it better. Strive; strive to be the best at what you do. But of course you gotta enjoy it all at the same time." Something to think about.
